The Thurgood Marshall Legal Society
A Student Organization @ The University of Texas in Austin
19 Page Website - Designed by Jenepher - Maintained by
Client
The Main Page
The
home page is often known as the index. In my version of the site I have a
link to each page from the index and all other pages in the same place.
Navigation of a website is key, if viewers do not
understand what is going on they will leave. The main navigation on this
website is located at the top under the header. You will see buttons
change when you mouse-over them. This is often referred to as a roll-over
image.
The navigation on the left is text based, so that it
is easily updated in the future. These pages are all photo filled web
pages.
The About Us Page
This
is a common page for any type of website, often referred to as the biography
page or simple the about page. This is a group photo provided by the
organization along with information about what they do. All pages are
written in HTML using CSS so that the organization members have the ability to
update all information. As a designer I suggest that you go back to your
web designer before attempting to make major changes to a complicated website
yourself. If you do not know what you are doing you may delete important
code that your HTML editor does not show you in normal mode.
the members page
The
organization member's names are broken into three columns and displayed on this
page.
the committees page
The committee page was later replaced with the events page by the organization
member that updated the site after I uploaded it. This page gave a
description of how the organization was set up and listed the committee titles.
Each title linked to the officers photos on the leadership page. This page
was designed according to the clients specifications. If it was left up to
me I would have had more images on this page, possibly some photos of the
chairmen at work.
The Events Page
The
events page is a simple page that is easily updated with any HTML editor.
This type of page is great for anyone that needs to inform the public about
upcoming events. The client has since changed this page so that it loads
their gmail calendar. This is a good idea if you plan to keep it up and
add events but at the moment it just appears to be a blank calendar.
the alumni page
The
alumni newsletter is available to download in PDF format or viewable in JPG
format right on the site. There is a statement at the top including an email
address in case new alumnus wish to sign up to receive the newsletter.
the contact page
A
contact page is important for any website no matter what it's audience or
purpose. This particular contact page lists the email addresses of the
leading officers. It is important to keep the contact page up to date so
that website viewers have a way to get a hold of you.
the leadership page
Even though this page is categorized in the navigation as one of the photo
pages, this actually has a few extra functions. While the leader's photos
do open in a new, centered window like the other photo pages do, it also has the
names of the officers of the organization as well as their email address to
contact them and their organization title. This page has not been changed
by the client at this time if you want to click on the thumbnail and view it
live on the Internet.
one of the photo pages
All of the photo galleries are set up similarly. Each thumbnail image is
200 x 133 pixels so all of the pages load quickly for both dial up and high
speed Internet customers.
Once
clicked the thumbnail opens into a new window which is custom fit to each image
and centers on the screen. The large view of the picture is 600 x 400 px.
All photos were submitted by the organization president at the time the website
was designed. There were 11 photo pages in all, this does not include the
leadership page listed above.
The photo pages that were created were titled:
Welcome Reception,
Lock-in,
BBQ,
Mixer,
Banquet 2006,
Tailgate,
Bowling,
Black History,
Cultural Dinner,
Regional Convention, and
Miscellaneous.
What I was working with
Click on the links below to see the pages before I redesigned them. I
believe I have screen shots of all pages that were online previous to the
redesign.
The
Main Page
The About Page
The Programs Page
The Contact Page
The Events Page
The Leadership Page
The Login Page
Some pages were omitted, some added and other combined. This redesign
helped the search engine optimization of the site, eliminated broken links and
made the over-all more user-friendly. The member that edited the site
after it was uploaded to their server broke some of the codes by editing it
incorrectly. Some of the images above link to the live pages and other
link to the page was designed by Jenepher. The live pages were intact at
the time this page was created. If you have any questions or would like
more information on this project please contact Jenepher by email at
